A Centre for Indian Studies in Africa has been inaugurated at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, the first such centre in Africa. Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma, who inaugurated the Centre with Foreign Minister Susan van der Merwe, described the event as historic and assured Indian support for its activities. Sharma said India was looking forward to the visit of the South African President to New Delhi for the India-Brazil-South Africa summit as well as a bilateral State visit during which he would deliver the Gandhi lecture at Jawaharlal Nehru University.
